Beatification process
Diocesan phase of the beatification process
Since his departure for heaven on 26 September 1993, many people have been helped by the intercession of Frederick Kaiser. Countless letters and visits to his tomb bear witness to this. The feelings of the faithful prompted Mother Jacinta to consult the then Archbishop of Lima, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne, since Father Kaiser gave up his soul to God in Lima. The Cardinal’s response was positive. Under the guidance of Rev. Father Pedro Zubieta OCD, the juridical steps to follow were started.
On 28 September 2018, Cardinal Cipriani, after having received from the Holy See the Nihil obstat, introduced the process of canonisation on the life and heroic virtues of the Servant of God, Bishop Frederick Kaiser MSC.
At the solemn opening session, Cardinal Cipriani, like the members of the tribunal, took the oath of office. The tribunal constituted by His Eminence was as follows:
– Delegated Judge the Rev. Father Fernando Palacios Blanco.
– Alberto Maraví Petrozzi, Promoter of Justice.
– Notary actuary Rev. Father Julio Zafra Cotrina.
– Notary assistant Mother Ana MJVV.
– And as Postulator, Mother Inmaculata MJVV.
The ecclesiastical Tribunal interrogated 54 witnesses who knew him during his life and even went to Caravelí to hear some witnesses who, due to their age, could not appear in Lima. While in Caravelí they signed the decree of absence from worship.
The closing session was held on 26 July 2019, presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Octavio Casaverde. Octavio Casaverde, where he swore in Mother Trinity MJVV as the bearer of the acts of the process. This act concluded the diocesan phase.
Roman phase of the beatification process
On 17 September 2019, Mother Jacinta MJVV and Mother Trinidad MJVV, bearer of the process, went to the office of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and handed over to Mons. Giacomo Pappalardo, official of the Congregation, the two copies of the acts of the process of beatification of Federico Kaiser. The Roman phase of the process began.
Mother Jacinta, as Actress of the Cause, presented as Postulator before the Holy See Dr. María Victoria Hernández Rodríguez, of the I.S. Crusades of St. Mary, on 4 October 2019.
Dr. María Victoria Hernández Rodríguez holds a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome, where she has taught Philosophy and General Theory of Law and Canon Procedural Law at the Faculty of Canon Law. She is a judge at the Ordinary Tribunal of the Vicariate of Rome and a lecturer at the Javeriana University of Bogotá. She is Postulator in the causes of canonisation of the Venerable Fr. Tomás Morales, S.J., the Venerable Ángel Riesco Carbajo and the Nurse Martyrs of Astorga, among others.
Also, on 1st October, the Mother Actress presented Mother Trinidad MJVV to the Holy See as Administrator of the fund of goods of the Cause.
The decree for the opening of the funds was given at the end of December 2019 and on 9 January 2020 they were opened in the presence of Dr. Maria Victoria Hernandez.
Decree of Legal Validity
At the beginning of March 2021, the Decree of Legal Validity was granted. Once it had been verified that the diocesan process had complied with the legal norms, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints gave the Postulator an authentic copy of the Process, known as a public copy.
Appointment of the Relator
At the end of March 2021, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints appointed the Relator. Mons. Maurizio Tagliaferri. He was born in Casola Valsenio (Italy) on 10 June 1959. He was ordained priest in 1985. He holds a doctorate in Church History from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and a diploma in Archivistics from the Vatican Secret Archives. Since 2014 he has been working as Rapporteur of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
